Sewing for All Seasons by Susan Beal

Sewing for All Seasons by Susan Beal is a cute little sewing project book geared for Christmas.

4 out of 10 stars.  There are some cute projects in here, but it’s more for ideas than for actually teaching.  I liked the placemat idea.  If you are making four placemats, use four different fabrics and cut them geometrically then interchange the different colors so you have colorblock placemats.  Very clever.  If you’re making six placemats, you would use six fabrics, etc.  I also loved the little Mason jar cozy and the wine cozy.  Very cute.

There are projects for each season of the year, so I’ve listed them according to season just as they are in the book.

  2. Cafe Curtains
  3. Gardening Tool Apron
  4. Wrap Skirt
  5. Nesting Canisters
  6. Sewing Organizer

Summer

  2. Sunglass Case
  3. Coasters, Placemats (see photo)
  4. Tote Bag (see photo)
  5. Picnic Quilt

Autumn

  1. Wool Scarf
  2. Potholders and Trivet
  3. Sketchbook Cover

Winter

  3. Calendar
  4. Mason Jar Cozies and Wine Cozy (see photo)
  5. Handbag
  6. Wool Slippers

4 out of 10 stars.  It’s nice to see a sewing project book with some fresh ideas.  There are lots of cozies out there but these Mason jar cozies and wine cozy are adorable and totally new.  I also loved the placemats.  That’ll be my first project.  Is the book worth buying for these few projects?  Probably not.  But it’s a nice rental from the library.
