The River and the Wall is a 2019 documentary now showing on STARZ.
10 out of 10 stars. If there is anything you want to know about the wall being built along our southern border, watch this film. It gives you all the facts from both sides and explains why the wall is not only INEFFECTIVE but dangerous and how it gives away thousands of acres of land as well as a huge natural resource of water, the Rio Grande River, to Mexico.
Five friends make the trek across Texas’s southern border (by bike, horse, and boat), following the route of the proposed Trump wall along our southern border. What they find are diverse ecosystems that will cease to exist if the wall is completed. The cinematography is stunning. The facts are well-researched and told by the people who actually experienced it (including two Texas congressmen and several landowners).
What few people realize is that this part of Trump’s proposed wall (and parts of it are already built) cuts through the United States in such a way that it is not only completely ineffective, but gives away thousands of acres of land and most of the Rio Grande River which is a huge natural resource to Mexico. I think most people also don’t realize that the number of illegal immigrants from Mexico has sharply declined since 2002. The “illegal immigrants” that Trump is so afraid of are from Central America, not Mexico, so the real focus should be on helping Mexico, our neighbor and trading partner, strengthen their borders to prevent illegal crossings. Instead Trump’s malicious attacks on Mexico have forced them to establish trade with other countries, taking money away from the US. Trump is, in effect, giving away our resources, our land, our economy, and our safety. It’s the most un-American thing a President has ever done.
10 out of 10 stars. Watch it. I couldn’t even begin to list all the facts given in this film or to describe all of its beauty.
