The Closer was a TV series that began in 2005 and lasted for seven seasons. Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson is head of the Priority Murder Squad which investigates priority murders in the Los Angeles area.
10 out of 10 stars. This series was one of the best series on television. It started to go downhill at the end of season 5 and by season 6 and 7 had lost most of its fans, but the first five seasons were very well done.
Episode 1 Controlled Burn
In episode 1 of season 4, Controlled Burn, a firefighter disguises the murder of his mistress with a forest fire. 4 out of 10 stars.
Episode 2 Speed Bump
In episode 2 of season 4, Speed Bump, Two old ladies who run a halfway house are taking out insurance policies on the ex-cons then killing them. 8 out of 10 stars.
Episode 3 Cherry Bomb
In episode 3 of season 4, Cherry Bomb, a teen serial rapist who is also the son of the L.A. County Sheriff coerces one of his victims into killing herself. 10 out of 10 stars. One of my favorite episodes of the series.
Episode 4 Live Wire
In episode 4 of season 4, Live Wire, A realtor who’s been dealing drugs for cash turns on his partner and is murdered while wearing a wire. 6 out of 10 stars.
Episode 5 Dial M for Provenza
In episode 5 of season 4, Dial M for Provenza, A woman hires Provenza to murder her husband and he loses the evidence then his brother kills him. 2 out of 10 stars.
Episode 6 Problem Child
In episode 6 of season 4, Problem Child, The father of an adopted Russian boy kills him when the boy starts killing animals. 8 out of 10 stars.
Episode 7 Sudden Death
In episode 7 of season 4, Sudden Death, Sanchez’s brother is murdered by a 14 year old gang member for not showing him his hat. 4 out of 10 stars.
Episode 8 Split Ends
In episode 8 of season 4, Split Ends, a Hollywood hairdresser is viciously beaten to death by the husband of a domestic abuse victim she was trying to help. 6 out of 10 stars.
Episode 9 Tijuana Brass
In episode 9 of season 4, Tijuana Brass, two Tijuana, Mexico cops are killed by the FBI informant they were sent to murder and a third one comes to investigate. 10 out of 10 stars. This is one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. Brenda comes up with a clever way to both protect the FBI informant and to punish the Mexican cop who ordered his execution.
Episode 10 Time Bomb
In episode 10 of season 4, Time Bomb, three teenage boys plan to bomb and shoot up a shopping mall filled with women and children. 6 out of 10 stars.
Episode 11 Good Faith
In episode 11 of season 4, Good Faith, a man is murdered by his fiance when he discovers she doesn’t have cancer and never did (she’s been bilking donations from their church for her cancer treatments). 6 out of 10 stars.
Episode 12 Junk in the Trunk
In episode 12 of season 4, Junk in the Trunk, an obese diamond broker is murdered by his male boyfriend who is a cross-dresser who’s killed before. 4 out of 10 stars.
Episode 13 Power of Attorney
In episode 13 of season 4, Power of Attorney, a serial killer makes a deal through his attorney to get a reduced sentence in exchange for revealing his partner, who turns out to be his attorney. 2 out of 10 stars.
Episode 14 Fate Line
In episode 14 of season 4, Fate Line, a stunt man murders the movie producer husband of his lover. 2 out of 10 stars.
Episode 15 Double Blind
In episode 15 of season 4, Double Blind, an escort and her husband rob a cocaine party which results in murder. 2 out of 10 stars.
10 out of 10 stars. Police procedurals are popular because when written cleverly they’re very satisfying. This is one of those series.
